About Extracurricular Sports

An extra-curricular sports activity can play an important role in the development of your student.

A 2004 study from the National Center for Educational Statistics reported that 60 percent of all Catholic high school students participated in extra-curricular sporting activities -- a rate 20% higher than their public school counterparts.

(Additionally, the study indicated that almost a third of all Catholic high school students participated in an academic club.)

6 Tips on Athletic Scholarships

>> Reach out to the collegiate coach(es) at the university you're interested in attending.

>> Don't wait until the last minute to contact a collegiate coach.

>> Create your own buzz! Set up a website that includes your stats, videos, etc.

>> Be realistic: Typically finalists for a scholarship from a DIV I or II university are among the top five players in the state.

>> Consider a DIV II college. These colleges don't provide athletic scholarships, but they do offer award academic merit scholarships for affluent students. This academic money can often exceed the amount of the typical athletic scholarship.
